1.1.3Graphic Features
Checked against the photographs in the Mainzer Fotoarchiv. – As can be seen from the transliterations of the forms, the evidence for the lexeme is feeble (contra the more optimistic view expressed by Melchert & Yakubovich 2022a:375 and DCL:s.v.).

1.1.4Meaning
The adjective occurs in a tripartite sequence with šaḫuidantalli(ya)- ‘related to a binder, (that) for binding’ and witantalli(ya)- ‘related to a smiter/blower, (that) for smiting/blowing’, used to describe the substitute animal in a purification ritual. Based on the likely connection with CLuw. dūp(a)i-(di) ‘to strike’ (if the restoration is correct, see under Graphic Features), Melchert & Yakubovich 2022a:375 argue for a semantic interpretation similar to that of witantalli(ya)-, but assume that dūp(a)i-(di) ‘to strike’ and its derivatives possess a more generic meaning that includes the notions expressed by the two lexemes based on *šaḫuid- and *wid- (ibid. 378).

1.1.5Stem
Melchert & Yakubovich 2022a:375 seem to imply that dupani(ya)- represents an -i(ya)- adjective deriving from the stem underlying the form dūpana. This is possible if dūpana goes back to a thematic stem dūpan(a)-, otherwise the two would have a common base. However, it is necessary to keep in mind just how uncertain the existence of either word is.
