1.1.3Meaning
Meriggi 1935a:114 n. 110 suggests the meaning ‘dedicated’ based on a putative connection with Lyd. cẽni- ‘to dedicate (vel sim.)’. As pointed out by Gusmani 1964a:90, the vowel -i- for -ẽ- cannot be explained by a phonological rule. Therefore, the connection must be rejected. Gusmani (loc. cit.) himself takes cinaλ as attribute to qiraλ, but the relative pronoun standing between them might indicate that they do not belong to the same clause. The association with the Lydian word for ‘god’, i.e. ciw-, suggested by Gusmani (loc. cit.) is unlikely, because the loss of the glide -w- cannot be explained by a Lydian phonological rule.
