PRAE?-wa/i-na-
‘(unknown)’1.1.1Transmission
This hapax is attested in a single inscription from the Amuq, dating possibly to the mid-9th century BCE.

1.1.2Forms
| dat./loc. pl. | /…-wannanz/ | PRAE?-wa/i-na-zá | TELL TAYINAT 1 frag. 1, l.1 (Amuq) |
In the very fragmented context of TELL TAYINAT 1 frag. 1, l.1, an analysis as a dat./loc. pl. appears to be the most likely option, but by no means the only one.

1.1.3Graphic Features
1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
Largely unclear. The latter part of the stem may show a suffix /-wann(i)-/, cf. the discussion of the stem below.
The logogram PRAE (sign *14) is usually employed for the word family around HLuw. /pari/ ‘before’; it is not clear if the same phonetic value should be assumed here. If so, the word may have a shape such as /pariwanni-/ vel sim.
[AH.B.]
1.1.4Meaning
Unknown. The word occurs in a severely fragmented inscription, and the clause it is part of remains untranslatable. No attempt at a semantic interpretation is therefore made here.
[AH.B.]
1.1.5Stem
The word may be derived with the ethnicon suffix /-wann(i)-/, see Melchert 2003b:197f., or the suffix combination /-wa- + -ann(i)-/, for which see Rieken & Sasseville 2014a:310. Without a semantic interpretation, no decision can be reached on this matter. The derivational base may or may not be part of the word family around /pari/ ‘before’, but further textual evidence is needed to verify this hypothesis.
