1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
The phonological interpretation of this word is mostly unclear. Since it is likely to be related to the verbs PUGNUS.PUGNUS-li- ‘to hold, to stay’ and PUGNUS.PUGNUS-la- ‘to hold’, it is reasonable to assume that its stem ends in either /°linu(wa)-/ or /°lanu(wa)-/. However, the beginning of the stem remains in the dark.

1.1.4Meaning
Assuming that the word may belong to the family around PUGNUS.PUGNUS-li-(ti) ‘to hold, to stay’, its meaning is assigned on a morphological basis only. The context of attestation accommodates the interpretation, but cannot be said to prove it in any way, since the word is attested in a clause difficult to interpret at ASSUR letter f+g, §6: “CORPUS”-hi-sà-wa/i (BRACCHIUM)hu-mi+ra/i-ha zi-ku-na-ti ARHA wa/i-la-mi-na-´ PUGNUS.PUGNUS-nu, approx. /wassinahi(d)=sa=wa hummidin=ha ziKunadi ahha walammin …-lanu/, meaning ‘You shall uphold (?) the body and the arm dying from ziK-ing(?) (cf. Hawkins 2000a:536, 549f.).

1.1.5Stem
The verb appears to belong to the stems in /-nu(wa)-(i)/, which comprise factitives and causatives, see Sasseville 2021a:463f. For a derivational base, either of the also-attested verbs PUGNUS.PUGNUS-li-(ti) ‘to hold, to stay’ and PUGNUS.PUGNUS-la- ‘to hold’ is possible, but their full phonological forms are likewise unknown.
