| acc. sg. or dat./gen. pl. | malãν | LW 10.21 (Sardis) |
1.1.3Meaning
The sentence in which malãν occurs is obscure. The verb is possibly abbreviated, i.e. kim(…) (see kimλa-). If fasiša is the direct object, malãν is more likely to be a dat./gen. pl. It is tempting to compare the noun to Ištanuwa Luwian māla, itself of obscure meaning, although this does not lead very far. No meaning is suggested by Meriggi 1935a:101 and Gusmani 1964a:163.

1.1.4Stem
The ending -ãν shows that the word is oxytone (Gérard 2005a:56). It could be a common gender noun in -a- c. or, if malãν is dat./gen. pl., also a collective noun in -a-.
