1.1.2Forms
| acc. sg. (?) | pa-˹la?˺-ra-a[n(-) | Privat 40 iii 1 | (CTH 770, N/A) |
1.1.3Graphic Features
No photo of the fragment is available, only a hand copy by Hans G. Güterbock, recently published in Sasseville 2021b. Notice that Güterbock was not certain about the reading of the second sign in the word and thus 〈la〉 is our own interpretation.

1.1.4Meaning
If the word preceding palara[n, i.e. turā, is an imperative form of tura-(ti) ‘to pierce with a spear’, palara- would represent something that is pierced, followed perhaps by a scream in the next line (see CLuw. wiw(a)i-(di)). On comparative grounds, Sasseville 2021b:177 equates palara- with Lyc. B palara- ‘portrait (?)’, which would be appealing in the ritual context. Nonetheless, the meaning can hardly be considered secured, and more evidence is needed.
[D.S.]
1.1.5Stem
If the equation with the Lyc. B cognate is correct, CLuw. palara- is a common gender a-stem, built with the suffix -ra- c.
