1.1.4Meaning
Melchert 1984b:26 equates contextually the Palaic phrase nit=kuwat parāit with Hittite n=aš ara[iš] ‘he arose’ (KUB 33.9 ii 12’), which is found on a fragment of the myth of Telipinu. The Palaic sentence is negative, since it is the eagle, which has attempted to rouse the deity. In the Hittite passage, it is successful, since it is the bee, which has made an attempt. Oettinger 1986b:47f. takes over Melchert 1984b’s comparative analysis and brings further etymological support by connecting the Palaic verb with Hitt. parāi ‘he appears, he emerges’ and translates nit=kuwat parāit with ‘he did not emerge at all’. His semantic assignment is convincing and taken over. Outdated Carruba 1970a:67, Carruba 1972a:10 n. 13.

2. Reconstruction
2.1Reconstruction ‘to appear, emerge’
The comparison of Hittite parāi-/-i(ya)-(ḫi) with Pal. parāi- both meaning ‘to appear, emerge’ allows for the reconstruction of a Proto-Anatolian verb derived from the adverb/adposition parā ‘forth, out’, i.e. PAnat. *pr-ói̯h1-/pr-ih1-´ ‘to come forth’ or better ‘to appear, emerge’ (Sasseville 2021a:437). Melchert 2009c prefers a derivation from the reconstructed *parī, cognate of CLuw. parī. Though possible, it is not necessary based on the denominal (and de-adverbial) property of -āi-/-i(ya)-(ḫi), as explained in Sasseville 2021a:437f. In any case, both options should be left open.
