1.1.3Graphic Features
1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
Largely unclear, since only the end of the stem is attested in syllabic writing, hinting at /-rud-/. Of the logograms used, viz. TERRA (sign *201) and PONERE (*65), the first can be read 〈wa/i6〉, but the second has no known syllabic interpretation, leaving much of the phonological shape of the word in the dark. The word has so far not been connected to any possible cognates in the other Anatolian languages.

1.1.4Meaning
While the precise meaning of the word has remained out of the scholarly grasp so far, the syntax of the relevant clause was elucidated by Hawkins 1975a:126f. In the context at KARKAMIŠ A11b+c, §5, the word is likely to refer to some kind of land holding, since it is coordinated with the word for ‘town’: *a-wa/i-ma-zá *a-mi-i-na sá-pa-la/i-li-na URBS+MI-ni i-pa-ni-si-ná(URBS) á-ma-ha-wa/i sá-pa-la/i-li-ia TERRA.PONERE-ru-tà mu-zi-ki-ia(URBS) […], approx. /a=wa=mmanza ammin saplallin …-nin IPanissin amma=ha=wa saplalliya …-ruda Munzigiya …/, perhaps translating as ‘(I purchased it from Urattarhunt’s grandson), and [I …-ed] my ancestral town of Ipanissi and my ancestral (types of land holding) to/for/from? them’ (cf. Hawkins 2000a:103, 105).Note that Hawkins 2000a assumes the context to be one of adversity, whereas more recent interpretations view it as an economic transaction, see at /saplalli(ya)-/ ‘ancestral (?)’. Further evidence is required for a more detailed semantic interpretation.

1.1.5Stem
The word is a neuter gender noun, and its stem-forming suffix appears to be /-ud-/, a less common morpheme in Luwian. On the basis of the available evidence, nothing further can be said on the morphology of the word at this point.
