1.1.2Forms

nom./acc. pl. n. or coll. a-ḫa/ur-ri-ia-⸢la? KBo 29.32 ii 6 (CTH 773, MS)

If the reading (see Starke 1985b:334) is correct, the analysis as a neuter nom./acc. pl. or collective is likely. However, in spite of HHw:11 (with an adjectival interpretation), an identification of the part of speech remains impossible, due to the fragmentary context.

1.1.3Graphic Features

Checked against the photographs in the Mainzer Fotoarchiv.

[E.R.]

1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation

The reading of the second sign is ambiguous between -har- and -ḫur-.

[E.R.]

1.1.4Meaning

The fragmentary context forestalls any attempt to assign a meaning to the word. Accordingly, no translation is offered in CLL:4, HHw:11 or Yakubovich 2017d.

[E.R.]

1.1.5Stem

Melchert (in CLL:4) derives the lexeme by the following chain: aḫa/urra- → adj. *aḫa/urri(ya)-aḫa/urriyāl(i)-. In contrast, Schuol 1994a:290 posits a verb *aḫa/urriye/a- as the base of both aḫa/urriyant- and an instrument noun aḫa/urriyāl- n. All options should be left open.

[E.R.]

For the lemma head see CLuw. aḫa/urra-.
