1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
The phonological interpretation of this word is provisional, because it is not clear if the word has cognates in the other Anatolian languages. It may or may not be related to the verb /walliya-(ti)/ ‘to rise (in favour)’ (cf. the discussion of the meaning below), but the logographic determinative – insofar it can actually be made out at KARKAMIŠ A4a, §8 – does not support this link, since /walliya-(ti)/ is usually preceded by BONUS (sign *165), not DIES (*358). Interpretations also possible for the spelling are /ulliyanada-/ and /ul(l)iyannada-/. The quality of the stem-final dental as /d/ appears reasonably clear, though, due to the use of 〈tà〉, cf. Rieken 2008b:639.

1.1.4Meaning
The meaning of this word has yet to be elucidated beyond the broad classification as a title, cf. e.g. Giusfredi 2010b:167f. That it probably represents a title can be deduced from its context of attestation at KARKAMIŠ A4a, §8: Ipa-mu-[… (DI]ES?)˹u˺-li-ia-na-tà-sá, within the context translating as ‘(Urasarma of the city Ihasa), Pamu… the uliyanada-, (Muwa the …, and Kummawarri of the dog)’ (Hawkins 2000a:152).
Hawkins 2000a:153 draws a link to 〈(BONUS)u-li-ia-mi-sà〉 at MARAŞ 1, §1i, which is a participle nom. sg. c. of the verb /walliya-(ti)/ ‘to rise (in favour)’This was not clear to Hawkins 2000a at the time. In fact, the link to /walliya-(ti)/ had already been drawn by Meriggi 1975a:108f. mainly based on the spelling, but with unclear cognate status.

1.1.5Stem
The word appears to be a common gender noun in /-ada-/, deriving from a stem such as */uliya-/, which is not attested. Since the form attested at KARKAMIŠ A4a, §8 is most likely a nom. sg., the stem is evidently not subject to i-mutation.
