astãni-(t)
‘to compensate, make amends (?)’1.1.1Transmission
This lexeme is found in a metrical inscription from Sardis, dated roughly to the 5th or 4th century BCE.

1.1.2Forms
| 1sg. pres. act. | astãnu | LW 14.7 (Sardis) |
The word was previously read as qλastãnu (Gusmani 1964a:188). However, Sasseville 2021a:169 points out that the inscription does not always leave space between words and therefore suggests reading the relative pronoun qλ before the verb astãnu. This corresponds to the usual position of the relative pronoun.

1.1.3Meaning
Equating the verb astãnu with CLuw. aštaniya-(i) ‘to compensate, make amends’, we obtain a plausible sense for the former despite the obscurity of the context.

1.1.4Stem
Synchronically, it could correspond to a suffix in -ãni-(t) (thus Sasseville 2021a:169), equating to Luw. /-ani-(ti)/, although the sequence -aniya-(i) in aštaniya-(i) would expectedly yield in Lydian the same result.
