1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
The phonological interpretation of the present lexeme is uncertain. While the spelling is fully syllabic, the word has yet to be connected to any cognates either in HLuw. or the other Anatolian languages. The choice of 〈ta〉 suggests an unlenited dental, i.e. /-tt-/ (cf. Rieken 2010a:302), but the quality of the bilabial remains opaque, hence the cover symbol /P/.

1.1.4Meaning
The meaning of this word has so far remained unclear, see Hawkins 2000a:373. Not only is the word so far without cognate links, but it is also still unclear if is a noun or an adjective.Hawkins 2000a:370 considers it a noun, because he assumes the following word HLuw. /hwisnam(i)-/ ‘game animal’ to represent a participle modifying it. This analysis is now outdated. The context at TELL TAYINAT 2, l. 2, 3 is too fragmented to provide a good basis for a semantic interpretation: […]x-za-ta na?-ta-pi-zi LEO-sa-na-mi-zi PONERE-ha PANIS[…]x[…], approx. /… nattaPinzi hwisnaminzi tuwahha …/, perhaps translating as ‘I put the nattaPi- (and/as the?) game animals …’ (cf. Hawkins 2000a:370).

1.1.5Stem
From the context at TELL TAYINAT 2, l. 2, 3, it does not become clear whether the word is a noun or an adjective. It shows an i-mutated common gender inflection. Beyond that, the morphological structure remains obscure until further evidence is found to shed more light on the matter.
