This lexeme is found in a grave inscription containing a long biography.

[D.S.]

1.1.2Forms

nom./acc. sg. (?)

turllijẽ

TL 29.15 (Tlos)

A genitive plural is also possible, but less likely.

1.1.3Graphic Features

The recovery of this lexeme is owed to the new collation of the inscription prepared by Tekoğlu 2006a; outdated Gehrisch 2018a:39.

1.1.4Meaning

The word turllijẽ appears to be the direct object of sm̃mate ‘he bound, obligated’. The fragmentary context hinders any reliable interpretation. No meaning is given by Tekoğlu 2006a:1706. See under Stem.

1.1.5Stem

If turllijẽ really is a nom./acc. sg. n., a formation in -ije- n. (← -i(je)-) is obvious. However, if it were a genitive plural, it could instead be a formation in -ija- c. In any case, the base of the formation in -ije-, i.e. *turlle/i-, is surely attested as a personal name, i.e. Turlle/i- (Laroche 1974b:141, Schürr 2018b:81). Neumann 2007a:392 compares the root of the personal name with the Luwian word tūr(i)- ‘spear’, which is possible but hardly provable. One should also compare Lyc. B trlluba- and the “Hittite” personal name fTurla- (Zehnder 2010a:297 with further references).
