1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
Attested only once, the phonological interpretation of this word is nevertheless reasonably secure. It is thought to belong to the family around HLuw. /warriya-(i)/ ‘to help’ and thus related to Hittite warrā(i)-(mi) ‘to come to help’, both cognates support the geminate quality assumed for the resonant. Moreover, the remaining morphemes, if correctly identified, are well-known from other lexemes, cf. the discussion of the stem below.

1.1.4Meaning
The meaning is assigned on the basis of the assumed link with the word family around /warriya-(i)/ ‘to help’ (cf. Yakubovich 2017e), and the interpretation fits well within the context of attestation. The building inscription ALEPPO 1 is very brief, consisting of only two clauses, the second of which names the scribe. Thus ALEPPO 1, §2 runs: wa/i-wa/i+ra/i-i(a)-tá-li á-ki-TEŠUB-pa SCRIBA i(a)-tú?-wa/i(URBS), approx. /wawarriyatallis Agittispas tuppalas ITuwa/, meaning ‘The assistant (was) Agittispa, the scribe (in/from?) ITuwa’ (cf. Werner 1991a:50f.).

1.1.5Stem
The word is a common gender noun, resulting from a substantivization of an adjective in /-alla/i-/. Even though the form attested at ALEPPO 1, §2 lacks the nom. sg. ending (the text is almost entirely devoid of case endings), the i-mutation usually visible in that paradigmatic slot is indicated here with the choice of the sign 〈li〉 over 〈la〉. The derivational base for the adjective must have been the unattested noun */wawarriyatta(/i)-/ ‘assistance’ vel sim., itself an abstract built to a putative verb */wawarri(ya)-/ ‘to assist’ vel sim., which is undoubtedly related to the attested HLuw. /warriya-(i)/ ‘to help’ (differently Sasseville 2021a:366f.).
