The context, in which the word fartol is found, is obscure and fragmentary. No meaning can be offered; cf. Gusmani 1964a:121.

1.1.4Stem
Gusmani 1964a:121 suggests the possibility that the root of the verb is far- instead of preverb fa- + ar-. This is very unlikely, since Lydian <f> goes back to a lenited *b < *p and the lenition, according to Eichner’s laws, cannot occur at the beginning of a word. Instead, it is preferable to recognize a root ar-, although there are a few different roots of this shape in Anatolian carrying different meanings. Further evidence from the context is needed. Morphologically speaking, the denominative verb in -o-(d) was based on an agent noun in -to-, i.e. *arto-c., which was built on a root ar-.
