1.1.4Meaning

The Luwian word āmmamma[ is compared to Lyc. A ãm̃mãma (CLL:11,Hajnal 1995a:102 n. 66), translated here as ‘full-grown’, although its semantics are debated in the literature. One should also compare [2217] Pal. ammummali-, whose derivational base could match CLuw. āmmamma[. The fragmentary context of the Luwian cognate however does not permit any verifiable hypothesis and thus its meaning and etymology are best left open.

1.1.5Stem

Melchert (CLL:11) hesitates between a participle in -mma/i- and an abstract noun in -man-/-mn-.
