1.1.2Forms

2sg. pres. ind. act.

doppelter Glossenkeilar-za-ši

KUB 40.49 rev. 21’

(CTH 212, NS)

The interpretation as verb form hinges on the 2sg. pres. act. ]-x-ia-aḫ-ti ibid. rev. 22’. – The fragmentary form a-ar-za-ká[n- at KUB 43.63 obv. 3 adduced in CLL:33 is best understood as an imperfective of Hitt. ārš-(mi) ‘to flow’; cf. the mention of water (widanda) in the following line.

1.1.3Graphic Features

Checked against the photographs in the Mainzer Fotoarchiv. – An erroneous reading doppelter Glossenkeilarzai at KUB 40.49 rev. 21’ is noted in Ünal 2007a:64.

[E.R.]

1.1.4Meaning

Due to the fragmentary context, the handbooks cannot offer a translation (HW 2nd ed. A:363, CLL:33, HHw:s.v.).

[E.R.]

1.1.5Stem

The form is ambiguous as to the stem class: a root stem and a stem in -a-(ti) or -a(i)-(di) is possible.

[E.R.]

1.1.6Origin

Although not completely assured, the use of gloss-wedges makes a Luwian origin very likely (thus assumed in CLL:33, HHw:s.v., van den Hout 2006a:241).

[E.R.]

For the lemma head see Luw. ārš-(ti).
