SERVUS-wa/i |
Perhaps this word belongs together to the same paradigm as another form attested in KULULU 6, §1, SERVUS-la/i-i-wa/i- ‘(unknown)’; only further evidence can shed light on this matter.

1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
The exact phonological interpretation of this word remains in the dark. Use of the logogram SERVUS (sign *387) ties it to the word family around /hudarl(i)-/ ‘servant’, and it is hence cognate with it, but its precise shape is so far unknown.
[AH.B.]
1.1.4Meaning
Hawkins 2000a:458 tentatively suggests ‘slavery (?)’ or ‘servitude (?)’, semantically connecting the word to its likely family around /hudarl(i)-/ ‘servant’. The context in TOPADA, §25 reads: *74-wa/i7-sà-pa-wa/i kwa/ix-tax *274 FEMINA.MANUS-ha SERVUS-wa/i ARHA? u-pa-˹tax˺, approx. /…-wa/is=ba=wa kwitta … wanatta=niwaranninzi=ha …-wi ahha uba(n/t)ta/, which may translate as ‘Where he/they brought away the booty and the female children from/into (?) slavery (?)’ (cf. Hawkins 2000a:453, 458). Presumably, the enemy is the agent in this clause, but that cannot be determined beyond doubt, and thus the meaning of the entire clause and the present lexeme remains somewhat opaque.

1.1.5Stem
Likely a noun, the present word is probably part of the word family around /hudarl(i)-/ ‘servant’, but its actual shape remains out of reach, rendering an analysis impossible. Further data are needed.
