1.1.4Meaning
Only few handbooks mention the word. Some do not assign a meaning (CLL:81, HHw:58). Recently, Yakubovich 2017d tentatively translated it as ‘running(?)’, which is obviously based on etymological considerations (cf. ḫuiya-(i) ‘to run’). In a similar vein, Poetto 2010c:298f. plausibly suggests ‘help, support’ (Ital. ‘soccorso’ with the same metaphor as in Luwian), an elliptical expression derived from parran ḫuiya-(i) ‘to help’. This interpretation becomes even more convincing, if the second sentence is understood as an elaboration of the first. Consequently, the first verb should be restored as a 2/3sg. pret. form (a-aš-t[a], pace Poetto 2010c:298f.) corresponding to zappatta: (8’’)DŠi-wa-ta ḫu-wa-i-ú-na-ti a-aš-t[a] (9’’)za-ap-pa-at-ta za-am-ma-an-za ú-˹tar˺-ša […] “Šiwata, [you] we[re]/[he] wa[s] with support (i.e. helpful). […] you/he drained the damaged/damaging word/item […].” It is quite clear that the damaged items or damaging words were disposed of, and probably this was achieved with the help of Šiwata (outdated Ivanov 1998a:77); cf. also

1.1.5Stem
The stem final -un- points to a verbal noun in -war/-un-. For an underlying verb, only the reconstructed strong stem *ḫuwāi- of ḫwi(ya)-(i) ‘to help’ comes to mind (thus already Yakubovich 2017d and Poetto 2010c:298f., see under Meaning). It is also seen in
ḫuwayalla/i-.
