1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
The phonological interpretation of this word has remained unclear so far. A hapax legomenon, its spelling involves sign *110, whose syllabic reading is 〈ma〉, but Dinçol, Dinçol, Hawkins & Peker 2014a:65 propose a logographic interpretation as ARIES here, because any relation to Hitt. mani- ‘pus’ seems highly unlikely (cf. CHD L-N:163) and no other comparanda are currently available. The CLuw. word manni- is too unclear regarding its meaning as well as its part of speech category to provide any clues.

1.1.4Meaning
The meaning of the lexeme under discussion is suggested by Dinçol, Dinçol, Hawkins & Peker 2014a:65. It is based on the pictographic evidence from the logogram ARIES and the context in JISR EL HADID 4, §5: (DEUS)TONITRUS-ti-i 1 ARIES-ni-sa (“X.FLAMMAE?”)ku-wa/i-za-i, approx. /Tarhunti … …-nis kwaz(z)ai/, translating as ‘For/To (the storm-god) Tarhunt, one ram (will) fall?, (and afterwards, one ox and one gazelle will stand?)’.

1.1.5Stem
Since the nom. sg. of the word ends in /-is/, it is reasonable to suppose that the word shows i-mutation. Beyond that, the formation of the stem remains unclear until more syllabically spelt evidence surfaces.
