1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
Despite evidence from just a single inscription, the phonological interpretation for this lexeme is still relatively certain. It depends mainly on the assignment to the verb /warriya-(i)/ ‘to help’, already suggested in Hawkins 1975a:139 and 141, but the HLuw. spelling system leaves some room for ambiguity here.

1.1.4Meaning
The meaning was first proposed by Hawkins 1975a:139 and 141, who immediately connected the noun to the word families around CLuw. warraḫitašša/i- ‘of help’ and Hittite warrā(i)-(mi) ‘to come to help’, following an earlier suggestion by Bossert 1946a:125 regarding the interpretation of some personal names in HLuw. In both contexts in SULTANHAN, the word has a strongly positive connotation, because it denotes an action in support of the author, as per his testimony once rendered by the storm-god in §13, and once by his local human ruler in §45. In §45, the word is paired with another strongly positive noun: a-wa/i-tà á-pi-i sa5+ra/i-wa/i-ti-wa/i+ra/i-sá á-tà wa/i-su-SARMA-ma-sa-a-ri+i wa/i+ra/i-ia-ri+i sa-na-wa/i-sa-tara/i-ri+i-ha, i.e. /a=wa=ada appi Sarrawattiwaras ada Wasusarmssadi warriyadi sannawistarradi=ha/ ‘Sarrawattiwara re-made it with Wasussarma’s help and goodness’ (cf. Hawkins 2000a:467).
