1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation

The phonological interpretation of this word is largely unclear, not least because its word boundaries at either have not yet been established, cf. the remarks by Akdoğan & Hawkins 2010a:9. Thus, it cannot be said at present whether the initial logogram FEMINA should be considered a determinative or as representing part of the phonological form of the word. Nor is it clear whether the final 〈(-)na-na〉 belongs to the word or constitutes a word in its own right.

1.1.4Meaning

A hapax legomenon, the word is attested in a fragmented part of the KIRŞEHİR letter, §18: wa/i-tu-u FEMINA(-)ti-ia+ra/i(-)na-na (INFANS)ni-m[u]-w[a/i-…, possibly meaning ‘To him/her … (with?) the woman … the child …’ (cf. Akdoğan & Hawkins 2010a:4, 9). The wider context in the letter does not permit any further conclusions.
