1.1.4Meaning
Meriggi 1935a:104 suggests the meaning ‘unauthorized’, which is possible, but also a mere guess. The verb fadil, a univerbation of the preverb da- and in- ‘to make’, could be transitive, in which case kafoλcν would be direct object, or intransitive (due to preverb da-). The indirect object is ṃλiλ=s ‘to/for (the goddess) Malis’ (Payne 2019a:241 n. 39), implying that the subject of the sentence did not perform something in a kafoλcν-manner for Malis or did not made a kafoλcν for her. The root kaf- still needs an etymological connection. It is possible that it is related to the same one as Lydian kof(i)- ‘water’ (= Luw. /hab(i)-/ ‘river’), although this cannot be supported on contextual grounds for now. Further evidence is needed.
