This lexeme is found in the inscription of the inscribed pillar of Xanthos, dated contextually to shortly after the ascension of Artaxerxes II in 405-404 BCE and stylistically to around 400 BCE (Borchhardt & Eichner 1997-1999a:19f.).

1.1.3Meaning
The word qarazutazi occurs within a context of post-war amendments done by means of dedicatory monuments. It has been interpreted as an ethnicon in -ze/i- (Neumann 2007a:297, Schürr 2012a:121, Schürr & Dönmez 2015a:143). A different approach would be to see an adjectival formation in -i(je)- derived from an agent noun in -aza-, i.e. *qarazutaza-. If qarazutazi really is a dative singular, it may modify tezi ‘sarcophagus’. Without an etymological connection, nothing further can be said. For some outdated hypotheses, see Neumann 2007a:297 with further literature.
