tulijele/i-
‘assembly’1.1.1Transmission
This lexeme is found in the inscription of the inscribed pillar of Xanthos, dated contextually to shortly after the ascension of Artaxerxes II in 405-404 BCE and stylistically to around 400 BCE (Borchhardt & Eichner 1997-1999a:19f.).

1.1.2Forms
| dat./loc. sg. | tulije<l>ị | TL 44c.36 (Xanthos) | |
| tulijeli | TL 44c.62 (Xanthos) |
The grammatical assignment as dative/locative singular is posited correctly by Eichner 1993a:144.
1.1.3Graphic Features
Eichner 1993a:144 reads tulijew[i] in line 36, assuming a noun *tulijawa-, which is falsified both by the collation of the inscription and by the evidence of the other attestation and the derivative tulijeli(je)- ‘of the assembly’: Schürr 1997b:67 reads and amends correctly tulije<l>ị (supported by the 19th c. autography of Fellows 1842a, for which see also Schürr 2016d:150f.); followed by Sasseville 2021a:57.

1.1.4Meaning
Eichner 1993a:144 deciphers the context of the inscription properly by analyzing the phrase masasi tulijeli as ‘the assembly of the gods’, adducing Hitt. and Luw. tuliya- c. ‘assembly’ (also compared in Shevoroshkin 1969a:270, followed by Melchert (DLL:132), Gehrisch 2018a:84, Sasseville 2021a:57:
Trqqiz… sebe leli : pinati : masasi : tulije<l>ị (TL 44c.36)
‘The Storm-god… and he grants speech in the assembly of gods.’
Differently, Schürr 1997b:67 (and Schürr 2016d:147) assumes that tulijeli agrees with Trqqiz and thus interprets tulijeli as an ethnicon. This is, however, contradicted by the derivative tulijeli(je)- with the adjectival suffix -i(je)-, which implies that tulijele/i-is a substantive; see under Stem. For a translation of the whole sentence, see Sasseville 2021a:57.

1.1.5Stem
Based on Hittite and Luwian tuliya- c., we expect the Lycian cognate to be *tulija- c. However, Lycian B tulijele/i- shows the suffix -ele/i- derived from the non-attested base *tulija-. Therefore, one must assume the following derivational chain: *tulija- c. ‘assembly’ → *tulijele/i- ‘belonging/pertaining to the assembly’ → (substantivized) tulijele/i- c. ‘assembly’.
