1.1.4Meaning
Despite the fragmentary context, it is clear that Palaic appuzzi- c. equates to Hitt. appuzzi- n. ‘fat, tallow’.
[D.S.]
1.1.5Stem
Pal. appuzzi- is probably a derivative of the verb appu-(i) ‘?’ created with the suffix -zzi-. One should also compare the derivative p/wūzzanni-.

2. Reconstruction
2.1Reconstruction ‘fat, tallow’
The equation between Pal. appuzzi- and Hittite appuzzi- allows for the reconstruction of a Proto-Anatolian formation *-ti̯o-, i.e. *(h1)opu-ti̯o-, which was substantivized in the neuter in Hittite, but in the common gender in Palaic. A Hurrian origin as presumed in HW 2nd ed. A:193 is doubtful (thus also HED A:102f.); cf. Richter 2012a:41.
