1.1.2Forms
| nom./acc. pl. | /kuruPi/ | “OVIS”-ru-pi | BULGARMADEN, §11 (Tabal) |
The above table does not list two forms from the ASSUR letters spelt 〈ku-ru-pi〉, commonly associated with the same lexeme, cf. e.g. Hawkins 2000a:525. The separation of the words follows the new interpretation advanced by Giusfredi 2012a:155, who regards them as two different lexemes, cf. HLuw. /kuruppi-/ ‘(a vessel)’.

1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation
The phonological interpretation of this word is tentative, because the HLuw. writing system does not permit to specify the quality of the bilabial stop, which is hence represented by the cover symbol /P/. The interpretation of the first syllable, hidden behind the logogram OVIS (sign *111), rests on the likely related word /kuruPill(i)-/, denoting something similar, cf. e.g. Hawkins 2000a:525. Further textual evidence may result in a reappraisal.

1.1.4Meaning
The sole attestation of this lexeme puts the word in a context of annual sacrifices in BULGARMADEN, §11: a-wa/i TONITRUS-hu-na-(LITUUS)á-za-sa-za-´ DEUS-na-za “OVIS”-ru-pi sa5-sa5+ra/i-la-i “ANNUS”-na ANNUS-na, approx. /a=wa Tarhunazzassanz massananz kuruPi sasarlai ussin ussin/, which probably means ‘He (scil. the current governor) shall offer to the gods of Tarhunazza kuruPi-sheep year after year’ (Hawkins 2000a:523). Use of the logogram OVIS strongly suggests that it denotes some kind of sheep, although a more detailed interpretation remains out of reach at this point.
[AH.B.]
1.1.5Stem
The word appears to be a neuter gender i-stem noun, judging by what is assumed to be its ending, see Hawkins 2000a:525. Otherwise, the formation stem is unclear.
