1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation

With just a single attestation, the phonological interpretation of this word remains somewhat uncertain, not least because of the vocalic underspecification of the sign 〈ra/i〉 in addition to whether or not to disregard any of the vowels forced by the script. Rieken 2003a:49f., followed by Mottausch 2011a:67, opts for /zīralamma/i-/, but depending on the underlying morphology, which remains partly opaque due to a lack of cognates in the other Anatolian languages, its shape may well have been /zirlamma/i-/; cf. the reconstruction under the lemma head.

[AH.B.]

1.1.4Meaning

The suggested meaning of this lexeme is assigned with reasonable certainty, following Rieken 2003a:49f. In the relevant clause, /zir(a/i)lamma/i-/ probably modifies the noun /wattani/ ‘country, area’ together with another adjective, /suhhappananti/ (see under lemma), both denoting positive attributes.

[AH.B.]

1.1.5Stem

The form appears to be a participle in /-mma/i-/ and is thus part of the paradigm of an otherwise unattested verb */zir(a/i)la-/ vel sim. The verb, in turn, appears to be a denominal factitive (Rieken 2003a:50).

[AH.B.]

For the lemma head, see HLuw. */zar-/, */zir-/.
