1.1.3Meaning
The word arktoλ agrees grammatically with [šaw]ṭaarλ ‘the protector’ (Gusmani 1964a:60f.). It represents a formation in -to- c., which is commonly found with nouns designating individuals (Sasseville 2021a:180-183). Therefore, it is likely to represent a person here, who would additionally carry the title of protector. The nominal sentence nã(ν)=m paλτas išt šawkorfλ [šaw]ṭaarλ=k arktoλ can be syntactically interpreted as ‘The paλτas (is) for me from/with respect to (the) arktoλ, (who is) both the šawkorfλ and the [prot]ector.’ It cannot be excluded that arkto- is a name instead of a title or family term; more evidence is needed.
