1.1.3.1Phonological Interpretation

The only existing attestation of this lexeme is written syllabically, which provides a good impression of its phonological form. Assisting the interpretation is the fact that both the lexical base as well as the suffix are well-known from HLuw. and CLuw.

1.1.4Meaning

While the suffix /-starr(i)-/ suggests an abstract meaning for this noun, i.e. ‘purity’, the context shows that a partial re-concretisation has taken place in this case. The form serves as the direct object of the verb /izzi(ya)-/ ‘to make’ and denotes an action the king has taken for the benefit of some cities.

1.1.5Stem

The stem displays the suffix /-starr(i)-/, which is used to form animate nouns with an abstract meaning, usually from adjectives (CLL:196; Yakubovich 2016b:471). An adjective kumma- ‘pure, sacred’ is not attested in HLuw., but it appears in CLuw.
