| 3sg. pret. ind. act. | xñtewete | TL 11.2 (Pinara) |
| xñtawaṭ[e] | TL 26.2 (Tlos) |
The attestation of xñtewete is a case of persevering vowel harmony despite the analogical pressure of the paradigm of verbs in -a-(ti), i.e. xñtawate → xñtewete.

1.1.3Meaning
Torp 1901b:38 (following Arkwright) analyzes the form xñtewete as verbal form and posits the meaning ‘to rule’. This is due to both the etymological connection with xñtawate/i- ‘ruler’ and to the context, in which it occurs. This interpretation is followed by Pedersen 1945a:17, Gusmani 1960b:502 n. 15, Laroche 1979c:105, DLL:84, Neumann 2007a:128.
