1.1.3Meaning
In spite of its sparse attestation, the meaning of zattan is clear due to its obvious connection with zā-/zī- ‘this’ and structural and syntactic parallel with apaddan. The combination with the postposition šer ‘over, above; on account of’ can be rendered as ‘on that account, for that (reason), therefore’ (HED A:88). Accordingly, zattan šer means ‘on this account, for this (reason)’ (Müller-Karpe, Müller-Karpe & Rieken 2017a:78; Miller 2019a:141).

1.1.4Origin
The derivational connection with Luw. zā-/zī- ‘this’ (etymological and functional equivalent of Hitt. kā-/ke-/ki- ‘this’) reveals the Luwian origin of zattan, and additionally that of apaddan.
