1.1.3Meaning
The verb fratinid takes pidẽν as direct object, which Gusmani 1964a:128 translates as ‘damage’ and, therefore, he suggests the meaning ‘to cause’ for fratini-(d). The word pidẽν is translated differently here, which leaves the semantic assignment of the verb even more uncertain. However, it is worth noting that in LW 23.20 and LW 24.11 pidẽν is the direct object of the verb int ‘he makes’, which would lead us to think that fratini-(d) means something similar. Nevertheless, one cannot be certain as long as no evidence in the form of further attestations is forthcoming. Yet the sequence tin- in fra-tin-i-(d) could be the same as in tiṇ[.]ν̣ and fratini-(d). For the interpretation of fra- as a preverb, see Melchert 1994a:357.
