The lexeme is attested twice on a small NS ritual fragment attributed to Kuwattalla by Starke 1985b:183.

1.1.2Forms

nom. sg. c. [ma-an-na-u-wa-a]l-la-a-i-im-mi-iš KUB 35.69, 9’ (CTH 761, NS)
unknown ma-an-na-u-wa-al-la-a-i-i[m- KUB 35.69, 7’ (CTH 761, NS)

The position of the attestations within three lines supports the restoration of the same lexeme. Pace Melchert (CLL:137), the classification of the form in line 7’ as nom. sg. c. may be too optimistic without context.

1.1.4Meaning

As per Melchert (CLL:33), the end of KUB 35.69, 9’ can faithfully be restored as containing the 3sg. imperative a-aš[-du. Taken together with what is left from line 8’, the passage probably contains a wish for the well-being of the ritual client: ‘Let the ta[- ritual client be [… (and) (?)] mannauwallāima/i-.’ This is in accordance with the meaning of the putative substantivized base word mannawa(/i)- ‘(persons, who are) related to mannu-’ and of mannu- as ‘fertility, potency, manliness’ and further supports their semantic interpretation.

1.1.5Stem

Melchert (CLL:137) classifies mannauwallaimma/i- as part. or as denom. adj. with possessive meaning in -aimma/i-; on this topic see Melchert 2014d:207. The attested lexical material lends itself to the analysis of a derivational chain subst. mannu- ‘fertility, potency, manliness’ → adj. mannu- ‘fertile, potent, manly’ as well as adj. mannawa/i- ‘related to fertility, potency, manliness’, also substantivized as ‘the one related to fertility, potency, manliness’ = ‘the fertile, potent, manly one’ → adj. *mannauwalla/i-  ‘belonging to the fertile, potent, manly one’ → vb. *mannauwall(a)i-(di) ‘make/be fertile, potent, manly’ → part. mannauwallaimma/i- ‘equipped with fertility, potency, manliness’; for the last steps, cf. šarla/i- ‘high, chief’ → vb. šarl(a)i-(di) ‘elevate, honor’ → part. šarlaimma/i- ‘elevated, honored’. As pointed out by Melchert, the intermediate step of the verbal derivative could be skipped, leading to a possessive adjective.
