1.1.4Meaning
In addition to the transparent derivation (ašr(i)- ‘woman’ + abstract suffix -aḫit- + gen. adj. suffix -ašša/i-), the meaning ‘feminity’ is further corroborated by the fact that the genitival adjective ašraḫitašša/i- is used to specify a festival celebrated for the Šauška of Ninive, for whom the female sex is an issue due to her bisexual status (see already Starke 1990a:170f. with a parallel from the Hurrian passage KUB 27.1 ii 15). Unfortunately, the deity of the EZEN4 ašraḫiyaš in KUB 59.6 is unknown.
The meaning assignment of ašr(i)- ‘woman’, in turn, is based on that of ašrulāḫi(t)- (see under Lemma, with references).
