1.1.2Forms

nom.-acc. sg. n. ˹pu-ru-ul˺-[li-ia-aš-ši-ia]-˹an˺-za KUB 16.35, 3 (CTH 574, NS)
  pu-ru-ul!-li!-ia-aš-˹ši-ia˺-an-za IBoT 2.129 obv. 3 (CTH 574, NS)

Attestations following CLL:180 and CHD P:393 (with the latter’s restorations, cf. also Laroche 1959a:82; HEG L-Š:666; HED Pe-Pu:138) checked against the photographs of the Konkordanz. Contra HEG L-Š:666, Tischler 2008a:151, Tischler 2016a:286 and HED Pe-Pu:138 this is not a genitival adjective shown by its additional -iya- suffix.

1.1.3Graphic Features

CLL:189 takes the preceding SISKUR as determinative (and thus this word would be a substantivized adjective), but HEG L-Š:666 and CHD P:393 (followed by Tognon 2005a:74, 78, 85) book it as an adjective qualifying SISKUR. The context (explaining the reason for the anger of a deity) allows both interpretations (IBoT 2.129 obv. 3-4, transliteration and translation following CHD P:393): ANA DINGIRLIM=wa SISKUR purulliyaššiyanza ŠA MU.7.KAM karšan ‘The purulli- ritual/offering for the deity of year seven has been omitted’.

1.1.4Meaning ‘of the purulli-festival’

There is general agreement regarding the meaning due to its transparent morphology and context (Laroche 1959a:82; CLL:180; CHD P:393; HEG L-Š:666; Tognon 2005a:78; Tischler 2008a:151, Tischler 2016a:286; HED Pe-Pu:138; cf. also Ünal 2007a:555, Ünal 2016a:424, 968).

1.1.5Origin

There is general agreement that this is a Luwian form in Hittite due to its Luwian ending and suffixes -ašša/i- and -iya- (CLL:180; CHD P:393; HED Pe-Pu:138; also Laroche 1959a:82 [hesitating between Luwian and Hittite]; Tischler 2008a:151; cf. Ünal 2016a:968) and accordingly included in the list of Luwianisms of van den Hout 2007a:250. It is missing from the similar list of Melchert 2005a, which may be connected with his views that this is originally a loan from Hurrian (CLL:180), although it is a loan from Hattian, referring to an originally Hattian festival (Laroche 1959a:82; Soysal 2004b:149; Tognon 2005a:85; HED Pe-Pu:138f.; cf. also Tischler 2008a:151, Tischler 2016a:286).
