1.1.2Forms

dat.-loc. sg. tal-pu-ri-ti Kp 05/260 rev. 8’ (CTH 500, MS)

Attestation following Rieken 2006c:230 checked against the photographs of the publications (Rieken 2006c:228, Rieken 2009c:Plate XV; it is “rev.” in Rieken 2006c:229, Rieken 2009c:125, but “obv.” in her hand copy, Rieken 2009c:137). Anja Busse (pers. comm.) called my attention to the hardly legible ˹tal-pu˺-ri-ti-x[ in KBo 47.214 obv. i 32’ (CTH 500, NS, this is the reading of Groddek 2011a:167) that may also contain this word, but the fragmentary context does not help to decide this issue.

1.1.3Meaning ‘(a sort of building or place)’

Its meaning is unknown, but since the participants of the ritual “go” in(to) (a?) talpurit-, it must be a building or a place (cf. Rieken 2006c:230, Rieken 2009c:125: “Lokalität”), the meaning of its cognate talpuri- in KBo 20.123 iv 13’ is similar (“at/in the place of t.”, HEG T,D:61, Tischler 2008a:183, Tischler 2016a:349, without meaning in Ünal 2007a:673, Ünal 2016a:506), but cannot be identified more specifically and thus it is not helpful.

1.1.4Origin

Rieken 2006c:230, Rieken 2009c:125f. correctly assumes a Hurrian loanword via Luwian due to the -it- suffix and the direct Hurrian loanword Hittite talpuri- from the fragment of a Kizzuwatnean ritual (KBo 20.123 iv 13’; not included in Laroche 1980a and Richter 2012a).
