The word listed in the table came to light when D. Sasseville joined CHDS 2.52 (previously thought to be a Luwian fragment by Soysal 2015b:60) to KUB 35.159. Checked against the photos in the Konkordanz (Mainzer Fotoarchiv).

1.1.4Meaning
The interpretation of ištinašši as a verb in the 2nd singular present is made possible through the comparison of a similar Palaic passage, where verbal forms in the same person occur, i.e. KUB 35.163 iii 15. The direct object of the verb ištinašši is tapurdan, whose meaning is opaque. In the relevant passage, the leg of a sacrificial animal is cut off with a knife. From a comparative perspective, the Palaic verb ištinašši is surely cognate with HLuw. (PONERE)sà-ti- ‘to put aside (?)’, phonologically interpreted as /sti-/. The respective contexts are strikingly similar. In the Hieroglyphic Luwian passage, the verb denotes an action performed on body parts of the sacrificial animals. This similarity supports the etymological association of the two cognates. The meaning suggested for the Luwian verb is also possible for the Palaic verb but cannot be verified as long as the meaning of tapurda- remains unknown.

1.1.5Stem
The Palaic verb ištinašši is interpreted as a verbal formation in -ina-(i) derived from the non-attested verbal base *išti- equating HLuw. /sti-/. For Palaic verbs in -ina-(i), see Sasseville 2021a:532-541.
