‘to cut (?)’

1.1.1Transmission

This lexeme is possibly attested on a fragment (KBo 37.134), which can be tentatively attributed to the Palaic language. It might also be attested on another fragment, which contains words uttered by the Old Woman, i.e. KBo 49.84+.

For the last attestation, if the restoration of [-ta] is correct, the word would be a participial form in the nom./acc. plural or singular neuter; cf. Pal. wa-ak-ka-kán-ta.

1.1.4Meaning

Due to the fragmentary state of the contexts, the following semantic assignment must be considered tentative. The root kūr- is equated here with the one of Hitt. kwēr-/kur-(mi) ‘to cut’. Therefore, the meaning ‘to cut (?)’ can be assigned provisionally.

[D.S.]

1.1.5Stem

If the interpretation of the forms in the table is correct, it is likely to represent a denominative in -a(g)a-(di) (or -a(k)a-(di)).

[D.S.]

For the lemma head see PAnat. *ku̯ér-/ku̯r-´ ‘to cut’.
