1.1.2Forms

dat.-loc. sg. [ku]-ú-ra-am-mi KUB 35.55, 6’ (CTH 758, NS)
  ku-˹ra-am˺-[mi KUB 35.22, 8’ (CTH 761, MS)
  ku-[ra-am-mi] KUB 35.21 rev. 17’ (CTH 761, MS)
abl.-instr. ku-ra-ma-ti KUB 35.54 ii 9’ (CTH 758, MS)
  [ku-ra]-˹ma˺-ti KBo 29.4 ii? 5’ (CTH 758, NS)

Attestations following CLL:111 (cf. also Laroche 1959a:57; Kammenhuber 1986a:98; Starke 1990a:485f.; HED K:215) checked against the photos of the Konkordanz. Unfortunately, no photo is available in the case of KUB 35.55: in the hand copy the first sign is almost completely missing, except the head of a vertical, which is not enough for an unambiguous identification as ‹ku›, contra Laroche 1959a:97 and Starke 1985b:70 (followed by CLL:111 and HED K:215 too), although the general context known from parallel formulations supports this restoration. Further restorations follow Starke 1985b:85, 89 and CLL:111 (in case of KBo 29.4 ii? 5’). Since geminate nasals are not spelled consistently, the emendation ku-ra-‹am›-ma-ti in KUB 35.54 ii 9’ of CLL:111 is not followed here.

1.1.3Meaning ‘cut(ting) (?)’

This word was assigned no meaning by earlier scholars (Laroche 1959a:57; Kammenhuber 1986a:98; Ünal 2016a:961), but since Starke´s demonstration (Starke 1990a:485f.) it has generally been considered to be a substantive (and not a participle, contra Laroche 1959a:57 [implicitly]; Starke 1981a:149 n. 28; and HED K:215), either ‘cutting’ (CLL:111; EDHIL:486) or ‘Zerkleinerung’ (Tischler 2008a:94, Tischler 2016a:177, with question mark). The assignment of the meaning is based on the assonance with the verb kuwar- / kūr- ‘to cut, to break?’ and on KUB 35.22, 8’, where it appears in dat.-loc. next to the participle karšamma/i- ‘cut, severed’, replaced by kuratni ‘cutting’ in KBo 22.143 i 6. These circumstances definitely allow the meaning ‘cut(ting)’ (unlike the meaning ‘Zerkleinerung’), but the passages are unfortunately too fragmentary for a clear proof of the meaning.
