pallizzā-
‘from Pala, Palaic (?)’1.1.1Transmission
This word is found in a fragmentary context of the festival for the Palaic pantheon.

1.1.2Forms
| voc. sg.(?) | [p]al-li-iz-za-a[ | KBo 19.155 iii 25’ | (CTH 751, MS) |
Since the word occurs in a passage with a series of imperative addressed to the Tabarna, a vocative singular is the most attractive interpretation. This may be futher supported by a parallel passage found in a different text, if it is correctly restored, i.e. pa-la-e-e[z?-za? ta-ba-a]r-na MUNUSta-wa-a[n-na-a]n-na (KUB 48.53 + DBH 46/2.101 + KUB 35.159 ii 4´/13´/17´). Despite the CVC-sign, it is likely that pallizzā- is an ethnicon in -izza- (cf. CLuw. -izza-) derived from the city name Palā, just like palaē[zza-]. In each case, it would modifiy the word Tabarna, i.e. "Palaic Tabarna" or "Tabarna from Pala".

1.1.4Meaning
Due to the fragmentary state of the passage, the semantics assigned to pallizzā- ´from Pala, Palaic´ under Forms should be considered tentative.
[D.S.]
1.1.5Stem
Based on the suffix -izza- (cf. CLuw. -izza- used for ethnica), it appears to be a nominal formation; cf. also šalizzi.
