CLL:64 restores […]-˹an˺-ta-al-li-ia-an and […]-˹š/ta˺-an-ta-al-li-ia-an-za in KUB 35.43 ii 1.9, resp. as ḫatantalliya- ‘of dry land’ (with question mark). The reasons for Melchert’s restoration are his “guess” for the meaning of witantalliya- as ‘of waters’, which appears in contrast with the present word, and the existence of the Hittite word ḫatanti- ‘dry land’. Although he duly notes that this is a mere possibility, his proposal was uncritically followed by Marcuson 2016a:291. Since the meaning of witantalliya- is unknown (see s.v.), there is no way to assign a meaning of […]š/tantalliyan(za) and there is no way to restore its form without further evidence. For another, equally unprovable restoration of the word see under witantalliya-.
