1.1.4Meaning
The word mārz(a) is modified by māḫlanz(a) ‘having a branch of a grapevine’. Carruba 1970a:64 suggests that it is something vegetal, although one would rather expect that it is some kind of object decorated with a branch (or branches) of grapevine.
[D.S.]
1.1.5Stem
The stem can be taken as /mar-/, in which case the ending -s would become -z following a resonant (thus Melchert 1994a:194), or as /mart-/ (/márT-s/ = mārz(a)). Outdated Carruba 1970a:64.
