3sg. imp. ˹a??-aš??-ša??-ad?-du?˺ KBo 29.16 ii? 9’ (CTH 761, NS)

Attestations following CLL:34 (but without a-aš-ša-at-ta, for which see s.v. āšš- ‘(unknown)’) checked against the photograph of the Konkordanz. Contra the hand copy, the signs are practically not identifiable anymore (cf. already the cautious transcription in Starke 1985b:196 as ạ?-ạš?-šạ?-ad-du) and thus the proposed readings and even the existence of this word are gratuitous. Yakubovich (pers. comm.) books this word under āš-/- ‘to be’, which may fit the context semantically (cf. under Meaning), but its 3sg. imp. is written consistently (in dozens of attestations) as a-aš-du (see s.v.) and thus they should probably be separated.

1.1.3Meaning ‘(unknown)’

CLL:34 booked this word with the meaning ‘to say, to speak’ (it remains unkown whether the other scholars who translate āšša- as a verb without attestations also included this word, for their list see s.v. āšš- ‘(unknown)’ under Meaning) and Yakubovich (pers. comm.) suggested ‘to be’. Since the context is fragmentary and practically unintelligible, none of these suggestions can be confirmed or rejected. Note, however, that Yakubovich’s translation has formal problems, see under Form.
