1.1.3Meaning ‘man (in diminutive form)’
Based on the probable hypothesis that the underlying word is Luwian *zidanna/i-, see under Origin.
[Zs.S.]
1.1.4Origin
Yakubovich 2010d:216 cautiously identified the underlying word with Luwian zida/i- ‘man’ enlarged with the diminutive suffix -anna/i- (followed by HEG:767; rejected by Kloekhorst 2019b:62, 65 without any argument). Although he duly notes that formally the suffix might have been an originally Akkadian suffix, he rightly calls attention to the fact (Yakubovich 2010d:216 n. 12) that this Zidani directly corresponds to the name Zidanni attested in the Hittite period (Laroche 1966b:211).
