1.1.3Meaning ‘pertaining to zurki-’

Due to the context (preceded by SISKUR) and its transparent morphology (the appurtenance suffix -iya-) there is a general and correct agreement that this word refers to the zurki- rite (Ünal 2007a:828, Ünal 2016a:613; Tischler 2008a:236, Tischler 2016a:462, HEG U-Z:791; Feder 2011a:15f.; Görke & Melzer 2016a:§16; cf. also Otten 1971b:12). The meaning of the underlying word, zurki-, is ‘blood’, see the discussion s.v. zurkitāi- with references.

1.1.4Origin

Due to its Luwian ending there is a general and correct agreement that we are dealing with a Luwian word in Hittite context (Otten 1971b:12; Strauß 2006a:96 n. 368 [but with outdated grammatical analysis]; van den Hout 2007a:253; HEG U-Z:791; Feder 2011a:15 n. 32), although not listed as such in the list of Luwianisms of Melchert 2005a.
