pa-⸢ra⸣ ša-me-iš, but also considers an interpretation of the initial wedge as the sign for the numeral 10. Given the shape of the relevant imprint, which differs from that of the numeral 20 ibid. 11’, and the lack of a space between
para and šameiš, both readings are unlikely. Differently, van den Hout 2006a:244 posits a stem parašamešmašša/i-, not recognizing the clitic chain =ma=šši; cf. Hazenbos 2003a:152.

1.1.4Meaning
The interpretation of the word denoting a kind of votive object by Melchert (DCL:176) – the only attempt so far – is based on the text type the lexeme occurs in. However, listed among statues, cups, festivals, deportees, and houses, its context does not help to specify the meaning.

1.1.5Stem
It is tempting to analyze
parašameiš as a participle and equate it with Hitt. parašant- ‘(modifying troops)’, which can perhaps be connected with parāšanu- ‘?’ (see the discussion of the latter two in CHD P:138f.). However, as long as the meanings of the lexemes involved remain unclear, the argument is without foundation. The same would apply to an analysis as a -m(i)- verbal abstract noun.
