1.1.1Transmission

The alleged gloss wedge marked lexeme doppelter Glossenkeilakni- occurs in the birth ritual of Pittei (KBo 13.241 rev. 10”, NS) as x doppelter Glossenkeil/GAM ak-ni (checked against the photographs in the Mainzer Fotoarchiv). The reading doppelter Glossenkeilakni (with question mark) is suggested in HW 2nd ed. A:53, Ünal 2007a:12, HHw:12 (following the hand copy and communication by Heinrich Otten). Other editors of the text offered no reading beyond the sign names A GAM AG NI or even less (Beckman 1983a:178f., Giorgieri 2004a:410, Bachvarova 2013a:139). However, after the initial A above the NI of the preceding verb pāiweni, it seems clear that the GAM sign cannot be interpreted as a gloss wedge.
