tannarant(i)-

‘empty’

1.1.1Origin

Starke 1990a:544 n. 2013 quotes a Cuneiform Luwian word “tannarant(i)- ‘bloß, nackt’” from KBo 13.109 ii 7’ (the same word is attested also in KUB 20.85 i 11 and KBo 17.60 obv. 7, and its meaning is rather ‘empty’ in both concrete and figurative senses, HEG T,D:98). However, all the passages are Hittite sentences and although its etymology is still unclear (for different proposals see the overview in HEG T,D:98f.; EDHIL did not include it), there is no hint whatsoever that this word would be a Luwian loanword in Hittite. Accordingly, neither the Luwian glossaries (Laroche 1959a; CLL, DCL; Tischler 2008a, Tischler 2016a; except Ünal 2016a:971 without assigning any meaning) nor the lists of Luwianisms (Melchert 2005a; van den Hout 2006a) include this lexeme.
