Egyptian mcjrt

‘(a food type)’

1.1.1Origin

Schneider 1996a:76 suggested deriving this hapax appearing in a food list from the Luwian, Hittite or Palaic word for ‘honey’. However, Takács 2008a:171 rejected this derivation pointing out that the word for ‘honey’ appears in this list preceding mcjrt and this derivation left the <c> unexplained (followed by Simon 2010a:84). Breyer 2010b:359 accepted the derivation of Schneider (he could not take Takács’s criticism into account, since he could consult with literature published only until 2006 (!), Breyer 2010b:13) and cautiously argued that it appears separately because it may refer to a specific type of honey. Although this may solve this issue, neither Schneider nor Breyer addressed the question of <c>, presumably due to their wrong transcription, in which it does not appear. Accordingly, this word cannot be explained as a loanword from Luwian, Palaic or Hittite.
